samsung-f490-official.jpgThe Samsung F490 has been launched today, but not at CES. As expected, the touch-based phone from Samsung looks pretty. The cellphone has a 3.2-inch 262,000 color touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera and supports HSDPA at 3.6Mbps. No release date yet for the US, but it looks like it will reach Europe first for a whopping $734 without contract. Full official specs are after the jump. Video: Texas Instruments' Wee Picoprojector for Projecting on the Go [Small Things]

We got a chance to check out the picoprojector that Texas Instruments is working on, both in a cellphone and as a standalone device. The picture that it puts up isn't amazing, but you wouldn't be watching HD movies using this thing anyways. It could be useful for business travelers who want to do easy presentations as well as regular consumers who want to share short videos and pictures with their friends. There are no concrete plans to actually put this tech into, you know, devices you can buy, but hey, they're working on it so you've gotta assume they plan to get paid for it at some point.

Asus M930W Smartphone Flips Out, Kills People, Has QWERTY

asusm930.jpgAsus already has a full stable of Windows Mobile phones, but this flip-open QWERTY-enabled candybar seems like one we can get behind. Not only does it have a screen underneath for typing (in addition to the outside screen), it's powered by a 520MHz CPU, has Tri-band GSM, 3G, 256MB ROM and 128MB RAM, not to mention Wi-fi and Bluetooth. As long as that keyboard underneath feels as good as it looks, this could be a killer communicator. [GPS&Co via Unwired View via New Launches via Uber Gizmo]

8GB Nokia N95 Coming to North America?

nokian958gbnamn828gbcoming.jpgThe Nokia Guide recently found on Nokia's online Nseries US Portal, an inadvertent mention of a 8GB N95 NAM (North American Model). Also listed was an 8GB N82, but it was subsequently taken off the list, while this new N95 mention was left on. Could we be seeing a refresh to the Nokia line sometime soon? If a North American 8GB N95 is in the works, one would assume it would offer 3G wireless over US bands like its 4GB counterpart. But if Nokia really wanted to excite me, they would offer an N95 with a touchscreen and a QWERTY/SureType keyboard. [The Nokia Guide via Boy Genius Report]

Samsung F700 Touchscreen Phone FCC Approved

The Samsung F700, or U940, has just been FCC-approved, meaning that it's going to make its way to Verizon really really soon. We don't have full specs yet, but it seems that the 5-megapixel camera has been cut down to 2-megapixels, but the 150MB of internal memory and microSD slot remains. It doesn't look like it's much of a smartphone, but that might be a good thing. [Phonemag]

The $100 iPhone/iPod Touch Stand Made from a Piece of Paper [100 Bill Origami IPhone

%24100iphonestand.pngOrigami fans'€"or just people who like money and have a lot of it lying about'€"might find Enrique Pardo's iPhone accessory interesting. The Swiss photographer and graphic designer folded a $100 bill in all sorts of clever ways and turned it into a stand for either jesusPhone or iPod Touch. How-to video is after the jump, plus a quick Q&A session with Enrique. Gizmodo: Hey Enrique, how did the idea come about? Enrique Pardo: I made the stand because I had thrown away the little plastic stand that came with my iPod touch. I was taking the train to Paris and spent 3 hours thinking of how I could make my iPod stand to watch a movie." G: Euros or dollars? EP: My first stand "cost" 20 euro in fact. euroipodtouchstand.png G: So why did you make one using a $100 bill rather than a $1 bill? EP: I made the video with a $100 bill just as a joke to say: here's what to do with your $100 Apple rebate for the iPhone'€"that doesn't come with a stand! G: And finally, what denomination would you use to make a Zune stand? EP: Concerning the Zune, I have never held one so I can't tell you if this stand would work but if ever I had the chance I'd try to tweak the origami to make a Zune version'€"why not? G: Thanks for your time Enrique EP: Thanks for writing and for the link on Gizmodo! Have to look after my bandwidth allowance now ;-) [YouTube via SwissMiss]

Gold and Silver Jabra JX10s Make Seat Cushions Hungry [A Small Luxury]

Jabra_JX10_Gold_Silver.jpgHaving taken the tiny Jabra JX10 Bluetooth earbud for a spin, I can say without a doubt that it is among the most losable earpieces on the market. I believe the loaner unit once spent an entire month down in the motorized track system beneath my driver's seat. So it makes complete sense that some people can now pay not the standard $75 for the basic plastic one, but over $500 for a limited edition model in solid gold. The bigger waste of money may be the sterling silver JX10 for just over $400: since the original comes with a silver finish, nobody but you and your accountant may ever notice the difference.
