Motorola Bringing Back the

startac3.jpgMotorola's StarTAC was pretty revolutionary when it first came out, one of the first phone models to comfortably fit in one's pocket and look good doing it. Even by today's standards the 10 year-old-phone is still pretty damned small, and Moto has decided to revive the long-neglected brand with the new StarTAC III. Unlike the original, the StarTAC III is a budget phone, low on features and aimed at first-time phone buyers. Also unlike the original StarTAC, it's headed for Korea with no plans of it touching US shores. Oh well, we still have nothing but love for you, StarTAC. '€"Adam Frucci Product Page [via CrunchGear]

Unofficial Windows Mobile 6 for HTC Hermes

If you've got an HTC Hermes, TyTN or Cingular 8525, today's your lucky day. The guys on the XDA Dev Forums have hacked together a bunch of Windows Mobile 6 code together to make a version that works on your phone. It's very unofficial, to be sure, and is missing stuff like voice calling, PTT, Live! Mobile, Smart Dialing and Windows Mobile Update. If you're brave and really want WM6 on your phone, give it a shot. Just don't be a afraid to get your phone a little bricked. '€" Jason Chen WM XDA Live [XDA Dev via Engadget Mobile]

Grundig U900 Single Core Linux-Based Cellphone Looks Like It Belongs in

grundigu900.jpgLinux and open source aficionados might want to thank Grundig for its U900 cellphnone, which we somehow overlooked at 3SGM. The clamshell won't win any awards for unique or inspired design, but the fact that it's based on Linux should make more than a few of you wet like October. We're also partial to the UMTS support. It even has two built-in cameras: a 2-megapixel one for still shots and a VGA one for video. The phone is also one of the first to run on an single core, single chip architecture. While that generally leads to cheaper prices, it also complicates that whole "let's throw Linux on it!" scenario. Probably the most significant Linux-based cellphone so far was the Greenphone. It lets developers acually'€"gasp!'€"develop applications for the phone. Crazy. Motorola got into the Linux game a little while ago, too, but they haven't exactly taken off in popularity. Windows Mobile iPhone Edition: The

If just seeing wasn't believing, here's a video that shows the Windows Mobile iPhone skin in action. Most of the icons are just shortcuts to the equivalent apps on Windows Mobile, but the most impressive thing must be the screensaver and the scrolling. The screensaver lets you whisk your finger to the right to unlock the phone, and the scrolling mimics the finger scrolling on the iPhone. A nice stopover between now and June for those who really can't wait. '€" Jason Chen Watch the iPhone interface running on a Pocket PC [Tech Digest - Thanks Jacob!]

Cellphone Tells Blabbermouth Wife To Quiet

quietwoman.jpgSo you're on the phone on your way from work talking to you lovely wife about how "interesting" her day was: she put the kids on the school bus, cleaned the house, cooked dinner, etc. As it should be. However, you spot a hazard on the road then have to quickly tell her to shut up lest her breadwinner end up in an accident. Thanks to a patent filed quite some time ago, all you'd have to do is push a button. This sends a signal to tell her to please pipe down ("shut up") so you can concentrate on not crashing. Hey, that's how the filing reads. '€" Nicholas Deleon Filing [USPTO via Mad 4 Mobile Phones]

Camera Phone Zoom Lens Cell Phone

zoom%20lens.jpg Don't take any more of those shitty cell phone camera shots that make people look like grainy ants. This 12mm zoom lens cell phone strap is easy to carry around and subtle enough that you can still sneak pics of hot girls walking by--except they'll look bigger and more real. Nokia Begins Testing its New N-Gage

Ngage%20Games.jpg If you've been sitting at the edge of your seat since we announced the second coming of the N-Gage, your day has come. That is, if you live in Finland. Starting today and lasting through mid 2007, Nokia is giving its new "N-Gage experience" a test run along with the help of Finnish cell provider, Elisa. Unfortunately, there won't be any side-talking this time around as Nokia already said they're not re-launching the N-Gage phone, but instead working on the platform of games which will play across most N-Series phones. Sagem Bluetooth Headsets Are Tiny, but Not Quite

sagemheadset.jpgAlthough wearing Bluetooth headsets like this Sagem one all the time is useful if you're taking a lot of calls, not even Apple's design can make you look truly cool while doing so. That's why you really shouldn't care what you look like and focus on comfort and performance. We can't vouch for how comfortable this thing is'€"the earpiece looks pretty decent and the body is pretty small'€"but it does get up to 5 hours of talk time and 100 hours of standby time. But until we get our hands on one and test it like we did the Aliph Jawbone, there's no way to say whether it's worth buying. '€" Jason Chen Product Page [Sagem via Crunchgear]
